Course Information

Lifeguarding/Shallow Water Lifeguarding: This is a 21.5 hour blended learning course generally held over a weekend of in-person skills and tests. The prerequisite requirements are completing the online course and being able to swim 150 yards without stopping, and consecutively treading water for 2 minutes without using your hands and then swim another 50 yards. After a break you will then swim 25 yards, dive down and grab a 10lb weight and swim 25 yards back with it on your back. After this you will be given a 2 year American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification w/ CPR/AED & First Aid for Professional Rescuers. You additionally may see this class being offered with the modules in the module section.

Learn-To-Swim Levels 1-5: This is a collection of classes based on swimmer proficiency level, these classes aren't progressive, you don't take Level 1 and then immediately Level 2, they are fully based on meeting the objectives of each level which are as following: Level 1 - Introduction to water skills, feel comfortable in water. Level 2 - Fundamentals of aquatic skill, learn basic propulsion. Level 3 - Stroke development, build upon level 2 and achieve water competency. Level 4 - Stroke improvement, improve strokes further and gain additional skills. Level 5 - Stroke refinement, allows kids to become efficient swimmers with textbook strokes. Past this point it is recommended to contact a local swim team if your child or yourself are interested on swimming for sport or professionally. These classes may be held at your backyard pool or public pools depending on preference and instructor availability, usually in 30 minute sessions or 60 minute sessions.

General Water Safety, Basic Water Rescue: Both of these classes are very similar and intended for parents, pool attendants and people who work around water, these are cheaper and much shorter than lifeguarding, taking around 30 minutes with some skill practices and learning general water safety skills like recognizing drowning and best practices in the water. This does not cover beach hazards.
